Bixby Eye Center
👁️ Eye Dilation: Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy do you dilate eyes?Dilation allows our doctors to get a wide, clear view of the inside of your eye—especially the retina and optic nerve. This helps detect early signs of eye disease, diabetes-related changes, retinal issues, and other conditions that may not cause symptoms right away.Do you dilate at every annual exam? Not typically. At Bixby Eye Center, dilation is not routinely done at annual exams unless you are age 60 or older, or if the doctor feels it is medically necessary based on your eye health, symptoms, or medical history. What happens when my eyes are dilated? You may experience blurry near vision and light sensitivity. These effects usually last about 4–6 hours, though this can vary from person to person. Why can’t dilation always be done the same day? Most routine vision insurance plans do not allow a dilated exam to be performed on the same day as a medical eye exam, which may require scheduling dilation on a separate visit. Is dilation really necessary? When recommended, yes. While it may be inconvenient, dilation is one of the most important tools we have to thoroughly evaluate eye health and protect your vision long-term. #optometristlife #OptometryCare #optometrylife #optometry #optometrist #PatientSupport #patients #eyecenterboutique #eyecenter #eyecentershop #bixby #Bixby #bixbyeyecenter #eyes #thebixbyeyecenter #BixbyEyeCenter ...
